Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Paperwire is an RSS reader and radio for iPhone, made and published by GRAPHIQ STUDIO LLC, a limited liability company organised under the laws of the State of New Mexico, USA ("we", "us"). This policy explains how the Paperwire app ("Paperwire" or "the app") and this website handle information.

2. What stays on your iPhone

Paperwire keeps your library on your device so it works offline. This includes:

This data is not sent to us, and we have no way to access it. If your iPhone backs up to iCloud or a computer, iOS may include the app's data in that backup under Apple's terms.

3. Where Paperwire connects, and why

Paperwire connects directly from your iPhone to the following services, and only to do what you asked. None of these connections passes through a server of ours, because we don't run one for Paperwire.

Your FreshRSS server

If you connect a FreshRSS server (or another server with the Google Reader API), Paperwire sends your username and API password to sign in, downloads your subscriptions and articles, and sends back which articles you read or starred. The server is run by you or by whoever hosts it for you, and their privacy terms apply.

Feeds and websites

For a reading list on your iPhone, Paperwire fetches the feeds you follow directly from their publishers. Paperwire also loads images in articles and, for feeds that send only a summary, the full article from the publisher's page. When you paste a website address, Paperwire visits that site to find its feed. These sites receive your IP address and see that the request comes from Paperwire, as they would for any feed reader. Their own privacy policies apply. Paperwire doesn't run publishers' scripts or trackers in its reader.

Voice downloads (Hugging Face)

Paperwire's natural voices run on your iPhone. Their models are downloaded from Hugging Face (huggingface.co). Our included voice, Ivy, downloads automatically the first time Paperwire is on Wi-Fi, and other voices download when you choose them. Hugging Face receives your IP address for these downloads, under its own privacy policy. No text you read or listen to is sent to Hugging Face.

Your own voice server (optional)

If you add your own speech server in Settings, Paperwire sends it the text of the articles you listen to with those voices, so it can return audio. That server is run by you or by whoever you chose, and their terms apply.

4. Features that run on your iPhone

Language detection, Apple's voices, your Personal Voice (if you allow it), Apple Intelligence summaries on supported iPhones, and Siri and Shortcuts actions are all processed on your device by Apple's frameworks. Paperwire doesn't send this information to us.

5. Purchases and Apple

Paperwire Premium is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment, and Apple's privacy policy applies. We don't receive your name, Apple ID or payment details. Paperwire checks on your device which purchases are active. Apple gives us sales reports that do not identify you.

If you turn on "Share with App Developers" in your iPhone's settings, or send feedback through TestFlight, Apple may share crash reports and diagnostics with us. We use them only to fix problems in the app.

6. What we don't do

7. If you write to us

If you email us, for example to ask for a beta invitation or for help, we use your email address and message only to reply. We keep them as long as needed for that conversation and our records, and we delete them if you ask.

8. Children

Paperwire is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children. As explained above, the app doesn't collect personal information at all.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal information, for example under the EU and UK GDPR or California's CCPA. Because the app doesn't send your information to us, we usually hold nothing about you. The exception is email you send us; for that, write to us and we'll help. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. California residents: we don't sell or share personal information.

10. Security and deleting your data

Your library is protected by your iPhone's own security, and passwords and keys are kept in the iOS Keychain. To remove your data, use Sign out or Remove reading list in Paperwire's Settings, which also removes the stored password, and then delete the app. Settings also lets you remove downloaded voices.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change how Paperwire handles information, we'll update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect, and mention important changes in the app's release notes.
